Part of the Henderson-Wessendorff mission statement includes promoting the appreciation of nature and open space. We are able to do this by offering a variety of programs that are not only learning experiences, but also enrich the overall well-being of those who participate.

Archery

The staff at Long Acres Ranch are certified archery instructors through USA Archery as well as NASP (National Archery in Schools Program). Introductory classes, called Explore Archery, are offered twice a year--once in the fall and once in the spring. Space is limited and class dates are posted on our calendar as we open them sometime around mid-September.

We also host (by tryouts) a small homeschool team of 20 archers. The team participated in their first state tournament in March 2021 and a few of the students placed in their age bracket. An introduction and practice, prior to tryouts, will take place in September. Information about signing up will go out mid-August.

Information for all of this goes out regularly in our newsletters. Please sign up to stay up to date on what is going on!

Air Rifle

One of the newer programs that is being supported by TPWD and we have deployed at Long Acres Ranch is the Student Air Rifle (SAR) program. Designed similarly to the NASP program, SAR is intended for schools to safely teach shooting sports with a single shot Umarex Embark pellet rifle.  The program is just now gaining traction in the state and we are hopeful it will also have an annual state tournament like NASP.

This is an invitation only program, but we would be happy to discuss details with you.

Fishing

Lake Moore was completed in the fall of 2019 and stocked with Coppernose Bluegill, Redear Sunfish, Florida Hybrid Bass. Collaborating with Fishing's Future, the ranch has hosted a number of anglers (some for the very first time) to come and fish. Family fishing days are hosted regularly in the fall and spring, weather permitting. Sign up days are announced in our newsletter and are also posted on the calendar.
